First campaign of the MARE mini grants project
Monitoring underwater noise in Madeira MPAs: the first approach to expande the coverage of the CoastNet in this archipelago
The first campaign of the MARE mini grants project ‘Monitoring underwater noise in Madeira MPAs: the first approach to expande the coverage of the CoastNet research infrastructure in this archipelago’ was carried out in the week of May 31 to June 4, 2021. This initiative brought together researchers from three MARE poles (Madeira, Évora and ISPA) and a researcher from CE3C. A Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) logger was placed in the Marine Protected Area of Garajau to record the underwater sound, in particular the sound produced by the dusky grouper (Epinephelus marginatus). This initiative aims to extend the CoastNet infrastructure to the Madeira Archipelago.
